What is Art Deco exactly? It is an eclectic style that draws its influences from a variety of well established areas of style. Egyptian and African and even Aztec Mexico are some earlier, more primitive influences on Art Deco Antiques styling. Combine these with other styles rooted in Cubism and Futurism has left this style with a wide range of functionality and expressiveness. Back in the 1920s to 1930s, it was one of the most popular movements around. The 20’s and 30’s saw this styling as a very functional, ultra modern and elegant sense of style. These designers were rejecting the established materials of decoration and ideas of interior design. In replacement they opted to use more unorthodox materials such as zebra skin, stainless steel, aluminum, ebony, inlaid wood, sharkskin, lacquer, and marble.

By the end of WW II, Art Deco design had lost its thrust and this caused it (temporarily) come to a screeching halt. Mass production designs had really diminished the entire concept of luxury as anyone could then afford it and the result was that the style was never seen in the same light again. Regardless of your financial or social situation, anyone could now afford it.

The late 90’s and up through today has seen a major resurgence though and now Art Deco is quite popular again. One of the major reasons for this is the absolute versatility of the designs. This very versatility allows it to pervade almost any area you can imagine… Take rings for example.
